Bongo Rx Starter Kit and Annual Replenishment Pack by AirAvant Medical

Start your sleep apnea therapy wherever you go, whenever you prefer. Combining simplicity with innovation, the Bongo Rx treats mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea without the need for a CPAP machine, batteries, or electricity.

Small enough to fit in your pocket, the nasal seals can be used headgear-free, letting you sleep with more freedom.

How is this compact device an effective alternative to CPAP? Here’s how it works:

  • During inhalation: A pair of soft nasal seals, which fit comfortably inside your nostrils, allow air to flow freely so you can breathe more naturally.

  • During exhalation: The valves close and special vents create a gentle back pressure (Expiratory Positive Airway Pressure or EPAP), keeping your airway open until you inhale again.

Apart from being effective, reusable, and easy to clean and use, the Bongo Rx Starter Kit includes all convenient accessories to help you get started straight away: headgear, travel case, and four soft nasal seals in all sizes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is the Bongo Rx for?

The Bongo Rx is for users with mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) without significant comorbidities. Your doctor will decide if the Bongo Rx is right for you (a prescription specifically for the Bongo Rx is required).

How does the Bongo Rx work?

The Bongo Rx is a pair of soft nasal seals that fit comfortably inside your nostrils. These seals allow air to flow freely when you inhale. During exhalation, however, valves close and special vents create a gentle back pressure (Expiratory Positive Airway Pressure or EPAP) that slows down airflow. This EPAP helps keep your airway open until your next inhalation.

How do I clean my Bongo Rx?

Daily cleaning: Bongo Rx

Weekly cleaning: headgear (if using)

  1. Gently hand wash your Bongo Rx with mild, unscented soap.
  2. Rinse well under running water and shake out excess water from inside the Bongo Rx.
  3. Check the vents to make sure they are free of any obstructions and that the valves move freely.
  4. Let the device air dry away from direct sunlight. You can place your Bongo Rx on the drying stand.

How often should I replace my Bongo Rx?

The Bongo Rx should be replaced every 90 days for effective therapy.

Do I need to use a headgear with the Bongo Rx?

The Bongo Rx is designed to stay in place on its own. For those who prefer additional security, an optional headgear is included in your purchase.

The Bongo Rx isn't working for me. What can I do?

Here are some troubleshooting tips to help you adjust to your new Bongo Rx. As with all forms of therapy, a period of adjustment is needed.

  • Make sure you try out all four sizes included in the starter pack. Start with the smallest size and see how it feels.
  • Practice exhaling through your nose. A small amount of resistance is normal and indicates the Bongo Rx is working as intended.
  • Wear your Bongo Rx while doing other activities such as reading or watching TV. This helps you get used to the feeling of the device.
  • Experiment with and without the headgear to find your most comfortable setup.
  • Give your body time to adjust. If you find it difficult to sleep through the entire night at first, don't be discouraged. Simply remove the Bongo Rx and try again the next night. Every minute spent using it helps you adapt to the device.

This CPAP alternative effectively reduces snoring and improves oxygen levels for many customers. Shoppers appreciate it's "more comfortable" and "user friendly than traditional CPAP." However, sizing is limited to four options, causing fit issues for some. Expiratory pressure may require adjustment, and moisture buildup occurs overnight. Mixed effectiveness, with some finding no improvement.

May work for some, may not for others

I bought this as a backup to my CPAP for no or low power travel situations. Honestly, it is not as comfortable as I expected. The expiratory pressure feels pretty high - I think it may take some getting used to, but I would much rather use my CPAP than this device. Also, the fitting could be a challenge since there are only four sizes and no in between sizes. Cost-wise, I just wish there were a more affordable way to "trial" this device. Because if it doesn't work or doesn't fit you are at a financial loss.

I only used it once, last night and I think so far so good? It's absolutely more comfortable to use than a CPAP. My only issue is my nostrils hurt this morning, and during the night. I know it's important that there's a good seal, but I think these devices are made for men sizes! Wish I could get an extra small.

I have mild apnea. I used Provent with mostly good results until it was cancelled. I tried Bongo Rx and was very pleasantly surprised at how well it's working for me. First, it works extremely well. I measure both my snoring and my oxygen levels when I sleep. Using bongo, my snoring has gone from extremely loud to minimal. Using the snorelab app, without it I'm typically in the 20-25 range and with it I'm in the single digit range, usually below 5. Just listening to the recorded sounds there is a huge difference. My blood oxygen levels have also improved. They were usually not bad but with the bongo I've gone from several drops per hour to less than 0.5 drops per hour.

It's also much easier to use and more reliable. I have a beard, so with provent I had to shave the top of my mustache and if it was very hot any sweat would make the provent adhesive fail. The bongo just inserts easily with none of these problems.

Finally, Bongo is significantly cheaper than provent. I'm extremely happy with it.

I was very hopeful this device would help me stop snoring and finally get a restful night, but it didn't work for me. I don't know if the exhale vents are too big, it didn't take much getting used to to wear, which i recall being and issue with provent. Or may be the mechanics of my snoring aren't the best for this type of treatment, but it literally changed nothing at all (i used audio app to track). The comfort level was very good though, if EPAP is what you need these won't disappoint.

I received the Bongo starter kit from Respshop within the time frame specified. The product was in good condition when I received it. The customer service I received was good and the staff was responsive to my needs.

I have found the Bongos to be far more user friendly than the traditional CPAP machine. I was able to adjust to the Bongos in a short period of time and have found it to be helpful in enabling me to sleep better. My husband tells me that he no longer hears me snoring at night. I wake up in the morning feeling better rested and more refreshed than I did previously.

I will have no hesitation in the future in purchasing this product and will purchase it from Respshop.

My partner says I’ve stopped by snoring and my o2 ring (lookee) says I’m holding above 97 so I have to say it’s working. I just can’t go back on that machine. I would do this if it worked only half as well.

This is an update on my previous review.
I have given the Bongo the flick. Worked great with the trial, ordered the annual pack , was delivered promptly, but unfortunately after 2 months useage my snoring has returned. I’ve returned to using the Provent Nasal patch’s (I still have two spare boxes)
And note the breathing resistance is stronger . Also the moisture from the bongo would wake me often during the night with nasal secretions running over my lips. This was despite using the next size with a tight fit.
Very disappointing

Thank you for your feed back, we appreciate it.
Unfortunately we no longer carry Provent but we do have a nice selection of mini and full size cpap devices.

I have been a user of Provent for several years for moderate sleep apnoea with good success most nights . And I was disappointed when it was discontinued and replaced with the Bongo. However I do now prefer the Bongo.
I have purchased the beginners pack Bongo with good success so far. It is much more comfortable to wear and so far so good. Provent was expensive and if not adhered properly To your skin a new one needed to be applied which was frustrating and $$$ down the drain . If your skin was not cleansed properly before applying it wouldn’t seal .
My only compliant with the Bingo is that moisture does build up during the night and you can hear a little wheeze. I find breathing hard through the Bongo several times dislodges the moisture.
I’m not wanting to use the CPAP so I Will continue to use the bongo, It’s certainly reduced my snoring and it’s kept my husband in my bed !!
Thanks for a great invention !!

My wife and I have been using the Bongo device for the past 6 months and it has stopped both of us from snoring. Peace has returned during sleep.

I tried this and if I had to give a review after the first night, it would be one star. By the end of the first week, however, I learned how to breathe with it and it’s a miracle.
I’m ready to reorder and heard you can order just one device instead of paying almost 300 for 4 of the same size. Do you sell the one only device?

RespShop

We do carry the Bongo replenish kits in all sizes. Once you have established the correct size from the starter kit, you then can order the annual replenish kit in that size. I am glad you like the product.

Can I purchase additional headgear?

RespShop

Unfortunately no, you have to buy the whole pack(you may select the size and get the annual pack) to get a headgear.

How do I know what size to purchase?

RespShop

It is best to initially purchase the starter kit to determine your size and then when you go to re-purchase you can choose your size for the annual kit.

Is there an extra small option for this device? I find the small a touch too large and often wake up in the morning (if not the middle of the night) with pain in my nostrils.

RespShop

Not at this time.

Why is it that the Bongo starter kit costs $100 less than the annual kit?
How long is each Bongo expected to last?
If the RespShop is a preferred provider for the CPAP, is it possible for insurance to cover the cost of the Bongo?

RespShop

Start kits are priced lower to make the device accessible to those who wish to try it. Since one can only likely make use of one size of Bongos, it is a somewhat unfair to charge the normal price. It's essentially a trial period.

Each Bongo lasts 3 months - so an annual pack contains 4 pairs.

Your insurance may cover the cost, but we do not offer direct billing - you'd have to bill them the invoice yourself.
