ResMed S9 Elite with EPR w/o Humidifier

The S9 Elite is a comprehensive CPAP device that aims to provide quality performance and comfort in a sleek package. EPR and Easy-Breathe technology provide breathing comfort by lowering the pressure on exhalation to create a natural breathing environment. The S9 Elite brings several customization options to the table with unique CPAP tubes like the ClimateLine or SlimLine, that seek to offer you unmatched personalization. Innovative technology paired with customizability put the S9 Elite above the competition.

Expiratory Pressure Relief

EPR is designed to reduce pressure at the inception of each breath to keep the pressure low throughout exhalation. EPR is able to reduce pressure by an exact reduction of 1, 2, and 3 centimeters of water pressure. The S9 with EPR is able to progressively alter pressure so there is little ventilatory effect. Event Detection Circuit is able to detect when a disordered breathing event goes longer than 10 seconds, and responds by stopping EPR until the conclusion of the event. Once normal breathing is resumed EPR will pick up and continue to provide pressure relief. EPR also actively works with Easy-Breathe technology to enable you to customize your RAMP feature. You can set the S9 Elite to EPR RAMP ONLY mode in order to ensure a comfortable experience and to assist in the improvement of compliance. Due to the fact you will be more aware of pressure changes as you fall asleep, you can rest easier knowing pressure relief during the ramp period creates a natural process.

EPR with Easy-Breathe Technology

Easy-Breathe monitors your breathing pattern to soften the breathing cycle during your CPAP therapy. In conjunction with EPR, Easy-Breathe synchronizes your inspiratory and expiratory cycle improving comfort during your CPAP therapy. A smoother and more natural pressure delivery significantly reduces the noise generated from the motor during operation. The S9 is able to operate at 24dBA when set to 10cm of pressure at a distance of 1 meter with Easy-Breath technology. The overall reduction in noise from the motor means no more motor whining or noise through the CPAP tube.

SlimLine and (Optional) ClimateLine Tubing

ResMed includes the standard SlimeLine Tubing for the S9 Elite that actively reduces tube drag and provides far more flexibility then a standard CPAP tube. The SlimeLine tube has a smaller diameter comparatively to a normal CPAP tube in order to reduce bulkiness and improve flexibility. ResMed also offers ClimateLine Tubing that provides heated air via a heated coil that has a mask temperature sensor which manages rainout in the hose. Climate Control utilizes complex algorithms that measure temperature from the humidifier to prevent condensation.

SmartStart/SmartStop

SmartStart/SmartStop is able to accurately determine when you start or stop breathing into your mask, and will turn the S9 Elite on or off accordingly.

Reviewers Tip:

Although the S9 Elite comes with a 15mm tube, you can also choose to use a standard 22 mm CPAP tube instead. However, the Patient Set-up Menu must be accessed and the settings must be changed from "Slim" to "standard. If you opted for the ClimateLine tube the S9 will automatically change the settings without any direct input.

FAQ

Does SmartStart work with everything type of CPAP mask?

There is a tendency in which the SmartStart auto on/off feature does not work as intended when paired with a nasal pillow mask and a pressure setting of 7 cm H2O or less. Generally if this feature is not working properly it is recommended you turn off the comfort feature.

What kind of power supply is needed for the S9 Elite?

There are two options that the S9 Elite can use, a 20 watt or a 90 watt external power brick. The standard power brick for the S9 is a 90 watt Power Supply that can support both the CPAP Device and the Humidifier. However the 30 Watt Power Supply will only be able to operate the CPAP device, and if there is a humidifier it will act as a passover.

Got to love this machine! ResMed just has the knowledge of how a cpap should work. You get what you pay for and this is no different. Though I should have gotten a sleep study done for my sleep apnea I don't regret buying this machine at all. It pumps out air like no other and I enjoy the EPR because my exhaling is a joke. Thank god for this machine but I will probably look into upgrading myself to an auto cpap because thats getting nothing but rave reviews from my fellow colleagues who are using it while i'm here using a standard cpap. I need those different settings.
