ResMed Airstart 10 Auto CPAP

Simple and easy to use. The ResMed Airstart 10 Auto is similar to the Airsense 10 Auto. The Airstart 10 Auto primary fuction is better served as a back up unit or a travel unit. Like the Airsense 10 Auto the ResMed Airstart 10 Auto CPAP is equipped with alike main features such as: heated humidifier, EPR and data recording.

HumidAir Humidifier

The humidifier will help reduce some of the negative symptoms of CPAP therapy by propelling warm, moist air into your lungs: this helps to prevent rainout, nasal congestion, and other unpleasant side effects. Patients who do not wish to have humidified air may opt to remove the humidifier from the machine entirely or simply not fill the water chamber. A great feature is the ability to warm-up the humidifier. By pre-heating the humidifier it will allow it to be warm at the beggining of your therapy.

Expiratory Pressure Relief

EPR is an algorithm that works by decreasing the pressure at the beginning of each breath a user takes, and then subsequently limiting that pressure throughout exhalation. Patients can choose whether they want pressure to drop by one, two, or three cm H2O and these pressure changes are made gradually so as to not awaken you while you undergo your therapy.

Default Settings:

  • Ramp Time: 20 mins
  • Start Pressure: 4 cm H2O
  • Humidity Level: 4
  • Mask Type: Pillows
  • EPR: Off

Key Features

  • Heated Humdifier
  • EPR(Expiratory Pressure Relief)
  • FAA approved

Comparison to AirSense 10 Auto

This ResMed AirStart 10 Auto looks very similar to AirSense 10 AutoSet, while it has a much simpler design and has the following features missing:

  • No auto ramp
  • No Smart/Auto Start
  • No Climate Control
  • No Remote Assist
  • No Wireless Module
  • Not compatible to  Myair Apps
  • Very limited data report
  • No Heated hose

The included SD card records only hours used, mask seal and humidification indicators, and AHI.

Q. How to get the 30 day average AHI from my Airstart 10 machine
A. Unfortunately the Airstart 10 is a lower end model of CPAP and only collects hours of usage. It will not be able to display AHI for this reason. I apologize for the inconveniene. I would suggest upgrading to an Airsense 10 if you want to be able to view AHI, leakage data etc.

This one costs around 50% of the similar model AirSense 10 sans the fancy features such as color display, light sensor, etc. which are not essential.
I really enjoy the user-friendly operation and it is very quiet. Don't be bothered by complaints of the humidifier being small. I refill mine every three days, which is not a big deal. Highly recommended.

I like my AirSense 10 machine and would like to have a back up machine in my vacation house. But AirSense 10 is over $900! Luckily I found this AirStart, which gives me very similar AirSense 10 experience. It has the same size, same color, same feeling, except some data functions (which I don't care when I am taking vacation), and some auto ramp functions, which in my option, worth $50 at most.

This machine is great at price. So even if you don't have an AirSense 10 machine, this is a good buy for your first CPAP. It worths every penny and you won't find any other machine at the similar value.

Kinda wish I could return. This resmed device dos not provide enough exhale relief like the Philips A-Flex. When you turn on the EHR it does not supply enough air fast enough and makes it feel like you are suffocating. (All 3 Settings) . With no EHR on at all the machine blows your mouth open. I hope I can get a different machine soon.
