FAQ

How do I clean my ResMed Chin Strap Restraint?
For best results, clean your chin strap regularly and before first use.

  1. Hand wash with warm water and a mild laundry detergent.
  2. Line dry or lay flat to dry.

What type of CPAP mask should I use a chin strap with?
Chin straps are most helpful with nasal masks and nasal pillow masks. These masks cover your nose but leave your mouth free. If you tend to breathe through your mouth at night, a chin strap can help keep your mouth closed.

How do I choose a chin strap?
When shopping for a chin strap, here are some key features to consider:

  1. Is the material comfortable and durable?
  2. What type of adjustments do you want?
  3. How many anchoring straps do you need?
  4. How easy is it to clean?
  5. What is your budget?

Q. Since getting my new ResMed machine in July, I have attempted 3 masks (1 full mask - Amara View; 2 nasal masks - Dreamwear and AirFit P10). Each mask has its own problem, thereby preventing me from getting a full night’s use of the machine and, as of late, never even getting to sleep, forcing me to take it off after 1-2 hours of utter frustration. I really want the nasal pillow masks to work (either one-not picky). I always end up opening my mouth as I drift off to sleep and then the sound of air escaping is so loud. So, I bought mouth tape, hoping that would do the trick. It hasn’t. As I start to drift off, my mouth/cheeks fill up with air, like a balloon, or strange squeaking kind of sounds are made in my mouth. Is this just me? Everyone I know who uses the nasal mask DOES NOT use a chin strap, NOR do they experience any problems, even if their mouth opens up. How can the machine be effective if your mouth opens up and the air escapes?
I do not know if a chin-strap is going to do any better than the tape. I would hope that it would, but it’s a crap shoot. Could the pressure be set too high? Is it a humidity issue? I do have a heated tube. I am frustrated and getting way too stressed over this issue. Thank you for any guidance you can give me.
A. If your jaw involuntarily opens when you sleep you are a mouth breather. Mouth breather's have the option of using a full face mask or any other style with a chin strap. The chin strap will provide enough resistance to keep the jaw closed during sleep.
Q. What is the length of the ResMed chin strap?
A. It is roughly 27 inches. Thank you
Q. I’m currently using a small full face mask with my CPap. Can this be worn with it or is it intended only for the CPap masks for only the nasal area? I have one of those, too. Had to give up because of very dry mouth.
I sometimes get very dry mouth with the full face mask even with the humidifier in the cPap device, even though dry mouth isn’t supposed to happen. I doubt the chin strap will help.
A. You do not need a chinstrap with a full face mask. You are correct that chin straps work with nasal masks to prevent the mouth from opening. If you are experiencing dry mouth please be sure you do not have a large mask leak. Try increasing your humidity and consider a heated tubing.
Q. Please tell he how I can match a chinstrap to my mask. Thank you,
A. Typically you put the chin strap on first then the mask. The mask will help hold the chin strap in place.

This chinstrap works well. I had to place it outside my Cpap headgear and bobbypin it to me hair, then it worked really well. I no longer open my mouth at night while sleeping.

I've ordered chin straps, for my CPAP, from other companies, but none compare to the one I received from Reshop. It material is strong, wider and more comfortable than other companies'. It is very adjustable and I would definitely order again.

I have several chin straps, different types but I like this one the most, very comfortable. The chin support is made of cloth which is very soft. Anyone who have problems with open mouth during sleep, I recommend this one. Very good product.

Subject: This one works for me
If you are reading this then, like me, you’ve struggled to find a chin strap that works well for you. My challenge has been with finding one that provides a fit that works well with my egg-shaped head without covering too much of my face so my face stays cool.

I’ve worn this Resmed strap the last three nights and thus far it seems as if I finally found one that works well for me as far as the fit. I can’t yet say for sure as to whether it helped with my dry mouth issues. Those occur when my noise is stuffed and I’ve been ok the last few days.

This chin strap restraint does what it was made to do if you put it over or under your headgear. It fits nicely in place, otherwise it will slip off during the night while you're asleep, since there is only one strap that goes over your head. The material for the strap is of neoprene, and of nylon and cotton knit for the cup where your chin will be. It is soft, non-stretchable with a length of about 27 inches. I hand wash it every morning, and let it air try. Good materials and price is just right.

This chin strap really helped but I had trouble keeping it on my head, I would not buy this one again but I am going to try another one because it did help just wouldn’t stay on.

HI, I am sorry that you experience this. I would suggest trying to put the chin strap on first then put your mask on. This will help keep the chin strap in place. If you still have issues please contact us. Thank you

Subject: Chin strap
The chin strap I order to keep my mouth closed to prevent dry mouth is not working for me. The strap that goes over the top of my head will not stay on place. I have to adjust it several times during the night thus interrupting my sleep.
I want to return it and get a refund.
