FAQ

What machines are compatible with the AirFit F40?
The AirFit F40 is compatible with all CPAP and BiPAP machines except the ResMed AirMini. If using the F40 with a ResMed device, make sure to select “Pillows” in the mask setting option.

How do I clean my AirFit F40 Full Face Mask?
Daily cleaning: cushion, vent ring, short tubing with elbow
Weekly cleaning: headgear, frame

Disassemble the mask prior to cleaning. Please refer to the user guide for complete disassembly instructions.
Soak the mask parts in warm water with mild soap. Shake the parts in the water and use a soft bristle brush to gently clean the holes in the vent ring.
Rinse thoroughly and air dry away from direct sunlight.

The AirFit F40 should not be cleaned using a dishwasher or washing machine.

How do I find my AirFit F40 cushion size?
The cushion size (SW, M or L) is located on the bottom right side of the cushion. You can use the AirFit F40 Fitting Template to find your best-fitting cushion size.

Stand in front of a mirror and place the template under your nose.
Position your nose above the blue Medium cushion box. Check if your nose width and length fit into the box. Repeat the process with the purple Small-Wide and gray Large cushion box.
Choose the cushion size that allows your nose to fit inside the box. If your nose fits into more than one box, choose the box that is the best fit for your nose width.

How do I find my AirFit F40 headgear size?
The F40 headgear size (small, standard or large) is located on the back of the headgear on the colored neck pad. We recommend starting off with the standard headgear, which fits most users comfortably, and then sizing up or down as needed.

What is the difference between the ResMed AirFit F40 and AirFit F30 full face masks?

The differences lie in the cushion, mask to hose connection and headgear.

Cushion: The AirFit F40 features a 100% silicone cushion, while the AirFit F30 has a silicone cushion with a plastic backing.

Mask to hose connection: The AirFit F30 mask features an elbow swivel connection while the AirFit F40 comes with a short tubing and swivel.

Headgear: The AirFit F30 has five adjustment straps, including one at the top of the head. The AirFit F40 has four straps and lacks the top crown strap.

How often should I replace my AirFit F40 mask?

To maintain the best fit and seal for your CPAP therapy, we recommend replacing the entire mask, including the headgear and frame, every 6 months.

The silicone cushion, however, may need to be replaced more frequently, typically every 2 to 3 months. Silicone naturally softens over time, which can affect its ability to create a good seal.

My AirFit F40 Full Face Mask is leaking. What should I do?

Gently pull the mask away from your face and then release it, allowing the cushion seal to inflate and settle comfortably under your nose and around your mouth.
Make sure to clean both your mask cushion and your face, as facial oils can interfere with the seal.
Ensure you're wearing your AirFit F40 mask according to the fitting instructions in the user guide or in the videos below. The way you put on the mask significantly impacts the seal.
Adjust your headgear as necessary.
Try a larger or smaller cushion or headgear size.
Replace any worn out mask parts.

Q. I need a large headgear with a large mask, but the f40 bundles do not have this as an option, so I was going to buy the mask and headgear separate. The problem is I do not get the small tubing + filter to connect to the CPAP. Is there a way for my needs to be met, or am I just out of luck?

A. Unfortunately, the mask does not come in a Large cushion/Large headgear combo. We can only suggest trying out the Large cushion/Standard headgear first and if the headgear is too tight, you can use our ONE-TIME mask assurance policy! Q. I do like this F40 mask. The only problem I have is I wake up with a dry mouth, no matter where I have the tube temperature and humidifier setting. I do sleep with my mouth open and I was wondering if you recommend a certain chinstrap to wear with this mask. I have tried a basic chinstrap and also the ruby red sunset adjustable chinstrap. The Ruby red is just to confining. Do you recommend any specific chinstrap to help me with the dry mouth that I consistently wake up every night? Thanks

Q. Can this be connected the the resmed airmini? I currently use the F20 connection.

A. It can only if you have the airmini tubing adapter as well as a standard hose. It will not connect to the regular airmini tubing.

Q. Currently using F30 mask. What is the difference between the new F40 and the F30 I currently use.

A. The main difference is the AdaptiSeal cushion on the F40 which is able to move and adapt to the face more freely as well as the flexible frame, the headgear is able to be adjusted but unlike the F30 it does not have an adjustment at the top of the head.

Q. I am having problems with the height of mask cushions. The ResMed F30i sits on the edge of my chin instead of in the dip between my lower lip and chin, which is causing leaks. I am looking for a hybrid mask as I am claustrophobic. Does the ResMed F40 have a shorter cushion than the F30i? Or are there any other masks with a shorter cushion that have a cradle? I am a 5 ft tall petite woman.

Very good mask overall and one of the best I have tried but not perfect as it still leaks a little more than my F&P Evora but slightly more comfortable than the F&P. But I really need low leaks so I will stay with the F&P. If leaks are not too much of an issue with you than this might be your favorite mask of all time!

Subject: ResMed AirFit F40 Full Face CPAP Mask
This is the best full face mask I have ever used. I have been using an F20 AirTouch for years that was causing irritation on the bridge of my nose. With the F40 there is no contact with the nose bridge. F40 is lighter, more adjustable and more comfortable.
I have one caveat: The Large Head Gear is almost too large for me at 6 feet 200 pounds. I reordered a Standard Head Gear.

Subject: Good and not good
I have been using an F30i before this mask. I like the softness of the full silicone cushion better. Washes better too! The headgear around the crown of my head is a bit tight without a way to adjust that part of the headgear, but the next size is was too big. My biggest issue with the F40 is the distance from the top of the cushion where you place nose to the bottom of the cushion too short. I sleep with my mouth open and I find it pulls to much causing a leak. This is not a problem I had with the F30i cushion which I feel is more spacious. Both masks have flaws, I’m just not sure which is better. I’ll give the F40 so more time and see.

Subject: So far so good, some good improvements over the F30
A few things I liked about this new version of the Resmed full face mask:

1. Large headsets are now an option, great obviously to have other sizes other than small and medium, which fit like a vicegrip on my head.

2. Full silicon cushion, which was easily the biggest change and improvement in my opinion from the F30. Having hard plastic bits in the cushion made side sleeping extremely uncomfortable, because you end up having hard plastic being pushed into your cheeks and will inevitably dislodge during sleep, which leads to leaks and night awakenings. I haven't had this problem yet with the full silicon cushion conforming nicely to my face and playing nice when I push against the pillow.

3. The air vents are also whisper quiet. There's no longer a loud hiss when you point the air vents towards a pillow. Instead it's very much attenuated and I can barely hear anything even if I bury my face in my pillow. Fantastic change.

Overall I think the F40 is a great improvement over the F30.

Subject: Better for me than the F20, but not great
I tried this after using an F20 mask. I liked the all silicon construction and I did find it easier to fall asleep with.

I used the F40 for about 3-4 weeks and overall it was ok. As I said it was more comfortable compared to the F20, but I would wake up every morning with a sore septum from the mask pressing up on it all night. This did get slightly better over the weeks of use, but never went away completely. If I tried to loosen the mask some when going to bed I would wake up with leaks around my nose and cheeks and need to tighten it anyway.

I also felt like there should be a medium/large size. I used the medium cushion (ordered a large cushion as well to try) and found the medium felt small around my mouth, but right for my nose. The large size fit around my mouth better, but seemed too big for my nose.

I like the fit of the mask, the flexibility and the size. I just have not been able to get past the tip of my nose hurting and the pimples I wake up with on it. So unfortunately not working for me.

Was hoping this would be a good mask for me. Not that comfortable and air escapes around mouth. Hope it gets better. Using only a week.

Yes, give it some time. Be sure you are not over tightening the mask straps as is the urge with full face masks. Please note if the mask is quiet when you first put it on, if so, you have a good fit. Masks will leak periodically throughout the night due to nocturnal movement. Let us know before 30 days are up if this mask is not working for you.

Subject: Didn’t work for me
This mask isn’t comfortable around my nose, however around my mouth it was comfortable. The mask for some reason works for 2-3 minutes the my machine shuts off. I have a res med 10.
